Imran Khan attacks DG ISPR, says he has jumped into politics

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief and Former Prime Minister lambasted Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations on Saturday. Imran also asked the DG ISPR to enter politics and start his own party.

Previously, PTI chief was called a hypocrite by DG ISPR Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, who also blamed Imran Khan for single-handedly damaging the Army’s reputation. In his Saturday speech, Khan said “You the DG ISPR have entered politics.” He called DG ISPR to make his political party as well.

“Who are you to give statements ISPR? You have climbed through the wall and have been involved, you should really make a political party and not make such statements,” the PTI chief said.

Imran added that he used the Pakistani flag to represent the nation abroad and that he was maintaining it. “ISPR sahab, at the time when you were not born, I was the one who was upholding Pakistan’s flag internationally and used to represent the country. Look up my name,” Khan said responding to the statement by ISPR.

Pakistan Army’s media wing also known as the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has termed the incidents that took place on May 9 as a “black chapter” in the history of Pakistan when PTI chief was arrested by Rangers outside the premises of Islamabad High Court which led to violent clashes across the country by PTI supporters.

DG ISPR reacts sharply to countrywide protests by PTI workers

Pakistan military’s media wing hit out at the protestors responsible for the turmoil in a strongly-worded statement and announced that no one would be allowed to break the law and order. Quoting the Accountability Bureau (NAB) statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations justified Imran Khan’s arrest.

The ISPR denounced the protesters and labeled their behavior as an effort to manipulate public opinion for their own narrow and self-serving ends. “This is an example of hypocrisy. It stressed the importance of maintaining law and order and highlighted the need to respect the institutions of Pakistan,” DG ISPR said.

Imran Khan in an address said, “I had an assassination attempt, as ex-Prime Minister I could not even get an FIR registered and there we had ISPR giving sermons on how I am lying. I ask who are you to say this to me, you should be ashamed for saying this.” He further asserted that no political party can be forcibly suppressed or imprisoned.

“You won’t listen to me but my suggestion for you is to come out of small, closed rooms and keep a big circle and see how can you save the country from destruction,” he said. He stated that the judiciary is the only thing that can save Pakistan’s democracy which is currently hanging by a thread.

“Today, our democracy is hanging by a thread and the judiciary can save it.” “This mafia is going all out in attacking the judiciary, so I first ask the nation to stand with our judiciary and Constitution,” Khan said.

“I understand that there is a lot of pressure on judges even, they get calls, told about tapes. I ask the policemen to not say what Aabpara and people near Zoo tell you to and ask you to tell them to follow the rule of Law”, he went on to say.

Interestingly, the speech of Imran Khan was not broadcasted on any of the major television news channels, even as the court suspended the ban put on by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on his speeches.
