Imran Khan likely to be arrested in foreign funding case today

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is expected to be detained at any time on Monday in connection with a case involving unauthorised foreign fundraising. Imran Khan, the chairman of the PTI and a former prime minister, will be detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection with a case involving illegal funding, according to sources cited by ARY News. According to the sources, Imran Khan would be apprehended by the FIA with the assistance of the Lahore police.

A four-person team has also been assembled for the arrest, and the DG FIA has received a summary for final clearance, according to ARY News. On February 2, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to overturn the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision on prohibited funding.

On February 2, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to dismiss the ECP’s decision in the issue of illegal funding.

It is important to know that the Investigation Agency has filed a complaint against the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ten other individuals on suspicion of accepting foreign funds. The FIA Corporate Banking Circle had opened a case in this regard.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) in the case, all of the nominated individuals were beneficiaries of the private bank account, and the accused—including the former premier—violated the Foreign Exchange Act.

Khan has been allowed until today at 5 o’clock in the afternoon to appear before the Lahore High Court in a matter involving a demonstration outside the Pakistan Election Commission (ECP).
The former prime minister was given the order by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh to physically appear in court while his protective bail motion was being heard.

After disqualifying Imran in the Toshakhana case on February 15, an Islamabad anti-terrorism court denied his request for an extension of his interim release in a case involving violent protests outside the ECP on the grounds that he had not appeared, according to Dawn.

The PTI leader has been recovering in his Zaman Park home in Lahore since since he was hurt in an attempted assassination while his caravan was making a pit stop there while they were marching on Islamabad. The PTI leader then requested a temporary protective bail from the LHC.

Justice Sheikh had threatened to issue a contempt notice to Imran at the previous hearing, pointing out that the PTI leader’s signatures on the affidavit, which was attached with the affidavit, and the power of attorney differed. Also, the judge ordered him to physically appear in court on February 20 by 2:00 p.m.

According to ARY News, the court had also instructed Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar to consult with the PTI leader’s legal counsel before making any decisions on security. A sizable police presence was stationed at the LHC main entrance in advance of today’s session.

The legal representation for Imran also showed up at the court to inspect the security measures. PTI supporters have begun to assemble outside LHC, according to Dawn. According to the reports, several PTI employees have begun to arrive at Zaman Park. They further stated that a special security team will travel with Imran Khan to his anticipated court appearance later today.

As the ECP disqualified the former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in the Toshakhana reference, several members of the local PTI leadership were arrested in connection with suspected vandalism during the rallies in Islamabad.

Aamir Kayani, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Umer Tanveer Butt, Rashid Naeem Abbasi, and Raja Majid are among the PTI leaders who had cases filed against them. Imran Khan, a former prime minister and the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the Toshakhana reference pursuant to Article 63(1).
