Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court on Thursday in relation to fresh murder accusations. This means that for the following 14 days, he cannot be detained again in connection with those accusations, according to his attorney. Naeem Haider, another one of his attorneys, said that he was granted bail in every prior situation in which he had requested it.
Since being expelled in a no-confidence vote last year, Pakistan’s powerful military has been engaged in a conflict with the 70-year-old former cricket hero who was elected as the prime minister of Pakistan in 2018.
Khan claims to be involved in close to 150 cases and neglects his involvement in all of them. According to one of his attorneys, Gohar Khan, the former prime minister will plead for bail in connection with more than a dozen charges on Thursday before the anti-terrorism courts, anti-graft courts, and the High Court in Islamabad.
Khan showed up at The National Accountability Bureau’s office in the northern city of Rawalpindi for a probe into corruption claims.
On Thursday, Imran Khan, in a video, made a promise to his fans that he will “fight this system of oppression till my last breath.”
The Pakistani military refuted claims of human rights violations on Wednesday without specifically mentioning the former prime minister. Khan and his followers have asserted that they were tortured as part of an anti-Khan campaign.
Khan, his wife, and hundreds of his political allies were subjected to a travel ban, according to announcements made by the authorities late last month.
According to Khan, the cases against him are intended to prevent him from running in the elections scheduled for later this year.
