A joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the caretaker government of Punjab province to investigate the arson attacks on the Pakistan Corps Commander’s House and the Askari Corporate Tower in Lahore on May 9 summoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran on Tuesday for questioning, according to Geo News citing reliable sources.
The JIT, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kamran Adil, has summoned the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to appear before the investigation body on May 30 at 4 p.m. at the Qila Gujjar Singh investigation headquarters.
According to Geo News sources close to the situation, the JIT will question Imran Khan about the May 9 riots. The Punjab Home Department has formed ten separate joint investigation teams (JITs) to conduct an investigation into the May 9 attacks and violent protests.
According to Geo News citing sources, PTI chairman Imran Khan was named in several FIRs filed at various police stations across the province. The JIT is led by Kamran Adil and includes Dr Raza Tanveer, Superintendent Police (SP) Investigation City Division Lahore, Raza Zahid, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)/SP-AVLS Lahore, Taimoor Khan, and Muhammad Sarwar, Factory Area Police Station in-charge investigation.
ATC Judge Abher Gul Khan granted the army officer’s request for the custody of the vandals, who are currently being held at Camp Jail in Lahore.
Two separate cases were filed in connection with the attack on Corps Commander House, also known as Jinnah House. Amar Zohaib, Ali Iftikhar, Ali Raza, Muhammad Arsalan, Muhammad Umair, Muhammad Raheem, Zia-ur-Rehman, Waqas Ali, Raees Ahmad, Faisal Irshad, Muhammad Bilal Hussain, Faheem Haider, Arzam Junaid, ex-PTI MPA Mian Muhammad Akram Usman, Muhammad Hashir Khan, and Hassan Shakir are among those arrested.
On May 28, Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan urged the Supreme Court judges to take notice and ensure a judicial probe into the violence that took place on May 9 so that only the “guilty should be punished,” Dawn reported.
