During the 148th Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, an Indian Parliamentary delegation, led by Rajya Sabha’s Deputy Chairman, Harivansh, engaged in bilateral discussions with their counterparts from Thailand. The agenda encompassed discussions on mutual concerns and avenues to bolster bilateral parliamentary collaboration, as per the official statement from Rajya Sabha.

The delegation actively participated in various meetings including those of the IPU Asia Pacific Geo Political Group (APG), BRICS Parliamentary Coordination Forum, and IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians. Notably, during the APG meeting, the Indian Delegation’s proposal for the Vice Presidentship in the IPU Executive Committee was endorsed.

The BRICS Parliamentary Coordination Forum provided updates on forthcoming meetings and took note of feedback from participating delegates. MP Sumitra Balmik contributed to discussions at the IPU Forum on Women Parliamentarians focusing on “Women, Peace, and Security”, while MP Ashok Mittal took part in the coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The delegation from Rajya Sabha comprised S Niranjan Reddy, Sujeet Kumar, Ashok Mittal, Prashanta Nanda, and Sumitra Balmik.
