India has become the most populous country in the world, surpassing China by a margin of 2.9 million population. According to The State of World Population Report, 2023 of the United Nations Population Fund, the population of India has reached 1,428.6 million, while China's population is 1425.7 million.

India has become the country with the largest human population leaving behind the world’s largest populated country China. According to the United Nations data, the population of India has increased to 142.86 crores. According to the World Population Dashboard of the United Nations, the population of China is 142.57 crores, while now India has become the world’s most populous country with a population of 142 crores 86 lahks. At the same time, the total population of America, the third most populous country, has now increased to 34 crores.

Talking about the area according to the population, India has only 2 per cent of the land of the whole world while China has 6.3 per cent. While 18 per cent of the world’s population lives in India, about 18 per cent live in China.

The average life expectancy of women in India is 74 years, and that of men is 71 years, whereas, in China, men live for an average of 76 years and women for 82 years. The fertility rate of women, that is, the ability to produce children, is 2 per woman in India, while China’s average is 1.2. In contrast, the world average is 2.1.

Sixty-eight per cent of people aged 15 to 64 live in India. That is, India is a country of youth. India has 25 crores 40 lakh youth population in the age group of 15 to 24 years. That is, India has the maximum youth power in the world. At the same time, there are 14 per cent of people above 65 years in China, but the percentage of people above 65 years in India is only 7 per cent. China is slowly becoming a country of the old.

It has been said in the UN report that India has written many articles of progress. It has made progress in education, public health and sanitation, economic development, and technology. But India has to increase jobs and work opportunities to take advantage of its youth power and give equal opportunities to women. On average, 106 boys per 100 girls are born in the world, but in 12 countries, this difference is higher than the average, and India is also included in these countries.
