A 20-year-old Indian student was discovered deceased in the US, with his family alleging foul play and suggesting that he was murdered. Abhijeeth Paruchuru hailed from Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district and was pursuing engineering studies at Boston University, while his parents, Paruchuri Chakradhar and Srilakshmi Boruna, resided in Connecticut, as per officials’ statements on Monday.
According to his family’s account, he was reportedly killed by unidentified individuals on the university campus on March 11 and his body was left in a car in a forest area.
The authorities confirmed the identification of his body through cell phone signals after receiving a complaint from his friends.
However, the Consulate General of India in New York indicated that the initial investigation had not found any suspicious circumstances.
“Paruchuru’s parents are in direct contact with detectives. Initial inquiries have not revealed any foul play,” stated the consulate in a post on X.
“We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate passing of Abhijeeth Paruchuru, an Indian student in Boston,” the consulate expressed.
Additionally, the consulate mentioned that they assisted with the documentation and repatriation of his remains to India and are maintaining communication with local authorities and the Indian-American community regarding this matter.
Paruchuru’s final rites were conducted in his hometown in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
Since the start of 2024, there have been at least nine reported deaths involving Indian and Indian-origin students in the US.
