Indian Navy Saves 23 Pakistani Nationals From Somali Pirates In Arabian Sea Mission

In a daring and swift operation lasting 12 hours, the Indian Navy successfully rescued 23 Pakistani nationals from the clutches of Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea. The dramatic rescue unfolded in the early hours of March 29, 2024, when the Indian Navy warship INS Sumedha intercepted the hijacked vessel, FV Al-Kambar, which was being held captive by pirates.

The Indian Navy’s strategic coordination was evident as the INS Sumedha was soon joined by the guided missile frigate INS Trishul to bolster the operation. Utilizing their tactical expertise, Indian naval forces initiated negotiations with the pirates, ultimately compelling them to surrender without bloodshed. This surrender marked a significant victory for the Indian Navy in combatting piracy and ensuring maritime safety in the region.

Following the successful apprehension of the pirates, Indian Naval specialist teams embarked on the FV Al-Kambar to conduct thorough sanitization and seaworthiness checks. These meticulous examinations aimed to ensure the vessel’s safety before escorting it to a secure area, enabling the resumption of normal fishing activities for its crew.

Responding to a potential piracy attack on an Iranian fishing vessel in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy swiftly diverted two naval ships to intercept the hijacked vessel. The Iranian vessel, ‘Al Kambar,’ was reportedly boarded by nine armed pirates approximately 90 nautical miles southwest of Socotra at the time of the incident. The hijacked fishing vessel was successfully intercepted on March 29.

The Indian Navy reiterated its unwavering commitment to maritime security in the region and the safety of seafarers, regardless of nationality. Notably, the Indian Navy has recently conducted several high-octane operations against piracy attacks, showcasing its dedication to upholding international maritime laws.

Earlier this month, the Indian Navy intercepted the under-attack pirate ship Ruen, sailing almost 2600 km from the shores of the Indian Coast, and forced it to stop through calibrated actions. This proactive stance by the Indian Navy underscores India’s resolve to combat piracy and maintain maritime security in the region.

In a statement, the Indian Navy emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of seafarers navigating through perilous waters, affirming its role as a guardian of maritime interests. The successful rescue operation serves as a testament to India’s determination to combat piracy and uphold international maritime laws, securing the seas for all seafaring nations.
