Indian Student Stabbed To Death In Canada By Roomate, Accused Arrested

A tragic incident took place in Sarnia, Canada when a 22-year-old Indian student, Gurasis Singh, was stabbed to death by his roommate on December 1. Singh, who hails from Ludhiana, Punjab, was an international business student at Lambton College.

According to Sarnia Police, the accused is Crossley Hunter, 36, who cohabited with Singh. Police were called to the residence after a 911 call at 4:59 a.m. and found Singh suffering stab wounds at a house on Queen Street. Early evidence is that the fight started in the kitchen, and became fatal when Hunter allegedly stabbed Singh, police said. Hunter was held at the scene and charged with second-degree murder. He is to appear at Ontario Court of Justice in London Friday.

The police have stated that they are investigating the incident fully to find any possible motives. “At this time, we do not believe the crime to be racially motivated,” the department said in a press release. Residents have been asked to respect the privacy of the investigation and avoid the crime scene.

The Lambton College management expressed sorrow and said, “The loss of a student is an unimaginable tragedy. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected by this devastating event.”

It has raised the anguish in the city, which now demands change at the system level. Citizens and fellow students have criticized international student safety, poor living conditions, and crime increases in Sarnia.

Gurasis came to Canada with dreams and hopes, like so many of us who leave our families behind to build a better future. His loss is a devastating blow, leaving his family to grieve thousands of miles away,” said Kawalpreet Singh Mann, a fellow Lambton College student, in an emotional social media post.
