The departure of the Indian warships Samarth and Abhinav from Colombo port marked the end of their “goodwill visit” to Sri Lanka, which commenced on February 27. During their stay, the warships engaged in various activities aimed at strengthening cooperation and joint training with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG).
Key highlights of their visit included professional interactions and joint training activities focused on areas such as Marine Pollution Response, Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR), Maritime Law Enforcement, as well as tabletop and passage exercises at sea. Additionally, personnel from both sides participated in sports and yoga sessions to enhance camaraderie and sportsmanship.
The visit emphasized India’s commitment to its “Neighbourhood First” policy through maritime diplomacy, aiming to foster safer seas in the region. Notably, on Monday, the Indian warships participated in the commemoration of the 14th Raising Day of the Sri Lankan Coast Guard.
Before they visited Sri Lanka, the Indian Coast Guard ships had concluded Exercise Dosti in Male, where they engaged in joint operational activities, including training sessions on pollution response and compliance with the MARPOL regulations.
The joint efforts between the Indian and Sri Lankan Coast Guard are expected to contribute to a more secure maritime environment in the region, as emphasized by ongoing professional interactions and training activities.
