Iran offered condolences on the killing of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in an attack in Tehran. The Iranian government stated that Haniyeh’s death, as someone who dedicated his life to fighting against Israel, “will not go in vain.”
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani extended condolences and congratulations on the “martyrdom” of Ismail Haniyeh, referring to him as a proud Mujahid. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s president when the attack occurred.
Kanaani expressed condolences to Palestine, its allies, and all Palestinian resistance factions, noting that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the details of the incident. He stated, “Undoubtedly, the pure blood of the indefatigable mujahid, who spent all his life in the honorable fight and struggle against the usurping Zionist regime and in the path of liberating Holy al-Quds and the oppressed Palestinian nation from the clutches of the Zionist occupiers, will not go in vain.”
Kanaani also mentioned that Haniyeh’s “martyrdom” would strengthen the relationship between Iran and Palestine, emphasizing that it will reinforce the deep bonds between Iran and Palestine.

Following this, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei, also addressed the killing on X, stating, “The criminal, terrorist Zionist regime martyred our dear guest in our territory and has caused our grief, but it has also prepared the ground for severe punishment.”
Qatar also strongly condemned the killing, stating that it, along with the reckless targeting of civilians, would lead to regional chaos and undermine the prospects for peace. The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the killing as a “heinous crime” and a violation of international and humanitarian law.
“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the assassination of the Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, considering it a heinous crime, a dangerous escalation, and a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law,” the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement.
The Ministry further emphasized that the assassination and reckless targeting of civilians would lead to chaos in the region and undermine peace efforts. It also reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, extending condolences to Haniyeh’s family, his companion, and the State of Palestine.
