Thousands are escaping from Lebanon to Syria

Thousands of Lebanese and Syrians are crossing into Syria to escape the ongoing Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.

On Wednesday, a team witnessed hundreds of people gathering at the Jousieh border crossing, one of several access points into Syria. Many stated they were aiming for Homs, a central city located about 18 miles away.

Dabbah Mashaal, an official at the crossing, noted that approximately 10,000 displaced Syrians and 7,700 Lebanese have entered Syria in recent days.

The majority of those waiting to cross were from Baalbek and surrounding areas in eastern Lebanon, which have suffered significant damage from Israeli strikes in recent days. Although the militant group Hezbollah has a strong presence there, many of those killed and injured have been civilians.

Some evacuees have come from as far as the southern suburbs of Beirut.
