The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Friday that a high-ranking Hezbollah operative, Mohammad Rashid Sakafi, was killed in an airstrike in Beirut. The operation, carried out the previous day, targeted Sakafi, who had led Hezbollah’s communications unit for over two decades.
“Yesterday, in a precise strike based on intelligence, Mohammad Rashid Sakafi, the commander of Hezbollah’s communications network, was eliminated,” the IDF shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Sakafi had held a senior position within Hezbollah since 2000 and maintained close ties with the group’s upper leadership, according to the Israeli military.
This attack was part of a broader campaign of airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Overnight, Israel also targeted key areas, including the primary border route between Lebanon and Syria, a passage heavily used by refugees fleeing the ongoing conflict.
