Suspected Israeli warplanes, on Monday, targeted Iran’s embassy in Syria, marking an escalation in Israel’s conflict with Iran’s regional allies. The strike demolished a building, according to Tehran, resulting in the death of a senior Revolutionary Guards commander and multiple diplomats.

Reuters journalists present at the scene in Damascus’s Mezzeh district witnessed emergency responders navigating through debris within the diplomatic compound, situated next to the primary embassy structure. Outside, emergency vehicles were stationed, while an Iranian flag remained hoisted in front of the wreckage.

The Iranian Embassy in Lebanon expressed anger over the alleged airstrike. It said, “This barbaric Israeli aggression is a flagrant violation of international laws, diplomatic norms, and the requirements of the Vienna Convention, the report said.

Iranian state media reported that among those killed was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a high-ranking commander within Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)
