US Vice President Kamala Harris confronted pro-Palestine protesters who interrupted her speech at a Detroit rally. Protesters in the crowd chanted, “Kamala, Kamala, you can’t hide, we won’t vote for genocide,” as reported by a leading publication. Despite their attempts, the Detroit crowd responded with boos and chants of “Kamala,” effectively drowning out the dissenters.

Following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month, Harris had emphasized her support for Israel’s right to self-defense but also noted that “how it does so matters.” She reaffirmed her commitment to a two-state solution.

An analysis by The Hill highlights that Michigan, particularly the Detroit suburbs, has a significant Arab American population. Some Democrats worry that the Biden administration’s stance on Gaza could affect their support in the upcoming elections.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, traveled to Wisconsin and Michigan on Wednesday. At the Detroit rally, United Auto Workers (UAW) leader Shawn Fain criticized former President Donald Trump and rallied support for Harris before a large audience.

Union workers in Michigan, a crucial battleground state, could influence the upcoming election. Michigan previously supported Trump in 2016 but was won back by Biden in 2020.
