Calling former US President Donald Trump a “threat” to democracy and fundamental freedoms, US Vice President Kamala Harris has committed to uphold voting rights, restore Roe v. Wade, and address the issue of gun violence.
In a post on X, Kamala Harris stated, “Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms. President @JoeBiden and I will restore Roe, protect voting rights, and finally address our gun violence epidemic. The contrast could not be clearer.”
While addressing a rally near Ohio’s Dayton, Trump said, “We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected,” Trump said in Vandalia, Ohio. “Now, if I don’t get elected…it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country,” Politico reported.
The exact meaning of Trump’s remarks was unclear, as he was discussing issues related to the automobile industry. He mentioned during his speech that if re-elected, China would not be permitted to sell any vehicles imported to the US, as reported by Politico.
The statement from the US Vice President comes shortly after Joe Biden and Donald Trump clinched their respective Democratic and Republican presidential nominations, paving the way for a rematch, as reported by CNN.
Trump secured the Republican presidential nomination, while Biden clinched the Democratic nomination.
During a speech on March 7, Biden pledged to restore Roe v Wade as a law of the land. He urged Congress to ensure nationwide access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) services. He expressed gratitude to Kamala Harris for her support in protecting reproductive rights and criticized Donald Trump for his role in overturning Roe v Wade. In his State of the Union speech, Biden addressed strategies to reduce gun violence.
