Kamala Harris’s Husband Had An Affair With His Children’s Nanny

Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, accepted having an affair during his first marriage after reports surfaced that he had a relationship with his children’s nanny. Emhoff admitted he caused “some tough times” for his family by being unfaithful to his first wife, Kerstin.

The 59-year-old made this admission amid media attention following Harris’s entry into the presidential race. If Harris wins the presidency, Emhoff would become the first US “First Gentleman.”

Emhoff told CNN, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times because of my actions. I took responsibility, and over the years, we worked through things as a family and came out stronger.”

The Daily Mail reported that Emhoff’s marriage to Kerstin ended when he got their daughter’s nanny pregnant, an allegation he did not address directly. Their marriage reportedly ended in 2009 after 16 years, when their daughter, Ella, was 10, and their son, Cole, was 15. The woman allegedly did not keep the child.

The affair occurred years before Emhoff met Harris, and he informed her about it before they married in 2014. Brian Fallon, a spokesperson for Harris’s campaign, said they would not comment further.

Despite the past, Kerstin Emhoff has supported her former husband and Harris. When JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, called Harris a “childless cat lady,” Kerstin said Harris had been a “co-parent” to their children.

Kerstin did not comment directly on the affair but stated, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for various reasons many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, remains a great friend to me, and I am proud of the supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built.”

Joe Biden’s campaign learned about the affair four years ago during the vetting process for his vice presidential candidate, ultimately choosing Harris.

As Harris’s own vetting process for her running mate concludes, she is meeting with potential candidates for a final “chemistry test” before making an announcement. She met with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly at her residence in Washington, D.C.

It is uncertain if other shortlisted candidates, such as Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, will join her. Harris is expected to place significant importance on personal rapport in her selection process, which could favor Shapiro, whom she has known for almost two decades.
