In her first public interview since Donald Trump’s election victory, Melania Trump shared her thoughts on various topics, including her son Barron’s recent viral moment, his role in the campaign, and her plans as the incoming first lady. Speaking on Fox & Friends, Melania displayed a mix of pride, humor, and maternal concern while reflecting on her family’s unique experiences.
Melania described Barron, now 18 and a student at New York University, as a “grown young man” and expressed pride in his involvement during his father’s presidential campaign. She revealed that Barron provided strategic advice to Donald Trump, particularly on connecting with younger voters.
“He is a grown young man. I’m very proud of him, especially for his knowledge, even about politics,” Melania shared. “He brought in so many young people. He knows his generation. Nowadays, the young generation doesn’t sit in front of the TV anymore—they’re on their tablets, their phones, and all these podcasts and streamers. He was very vocal and gave advice to his father. It was incredible how he helped bring success by identifying who his father needed to talk to.”
Barron’s input proved influential, as he advised his father on engaging with podcasters and streamers to reach young male voters, a demographic Donald Trump successfully connected with during the election.
When asked about the viral clip of a young Barron talking about his “soot case” in a thick Slovenian accent, Melania fondly reflected on how quickly time has passed.
“Years go by so fast,” she remarked. “It feels like it was just a few months ago. Seeing that clip, it’s hard to believe how much has changed.”
The video, which features a four-year-old Barron proudly showing off his Louis Vuitton suitcase, captivated TikTok audiences last month. Despite Barron’s generally private life, the clip offered a rare glimpse into his childhood and his mother’s Slovenian heritage.
Now attending NYU, Barron faces a college experience unlike most students. Melania acknowledged the challenges posed by his family’s prominence, including constant Secret Service protection.
“I don’t think it’s possible for him to be a normal student,” she said. “His experience at college is very different from any other kid.”
During the interview, Melania also displayed a playful side when asked about Donald Trump’s signature dance moves. Videos of the president-elect’s “special and unique” style—fist pumps and golf-swing gestures—have gone viral, with athletes and celebrities mimicking the dance.
“This is a very special and unique dance,” she said with a laugh. “I think a lot of people are copying it and having fun with it.”
When teased by the hosts about whether she joins her husband on the dance floor, Melania laughed, responding, “No, I did not. It’s all his own.”
