Naatu Naatu’s Oscar win would lift India up globally: AR Rahman

There is only one day till the Oscars are revealed, and although many Indians have put their hopes on RRR’s powerful song ‘Naatu Naatu’ to win the award, music master AR Rahman, who has already won an Academy Award for his great composition in ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ also hopes for the same.

AR Rahman stated that the Oscar win for Naatu Naatu will finally push India up internationally.

“I want Naatu Naatu to win, and I want them to win the Grammy as well, because any honour for any of us would pull India up…and the zone, the concentration of our culture will rise higher,” he stated.

The magnum opus energy-packed single ‘Naatu Naatu’ was nominated for an Oscar in the ‘Original Song’ category this year. The lyrical composition of ‘Naatu Naatu’ by MM Keeravani, the high-intensity renditions of vocalists Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, the distinctive choreography by Prem Rakshith, and the lyrics by Chandrabose are all aspects that combine to create this ‘RRR’ mass song a great dance craze.

The song is competing against ‘Applause’ from the film ‘Tell It Like A Woman,’ ‘Hold My Hand’ from the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ ‘Lift me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ and ‘This Is Life,’ from ‘Everything, Everywhere All At Once’.

Not just ‘Naatu Naatu’, two Indian documentaries have made it to the nominations this year – Shaunak Sen’s ‘All That Breathes’ and Kartiki Gonsalves’ ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.

‘All That Breathes’ is up against ‘All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,’ ‘Fire Of Love,’ ‘A Home Made of Splinters,’ and ‘Navalny’ in the ‘Documentary Feature Film’ category.

The story follows the lives of twins Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad, who operate from their abandoned basement in Delhi’s Wazirabad to rescue and rehabilitate wounded birds, particularly black kites.

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is up against ‘Haul Out,’ ‘How Do You Measure A Year?,’ ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect,’ and ‘Stranger At The Gate’ in the documentary short film category.

The storyline of the film centres on a family who adopts two orphan young elephants from Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. This year’s Oscars will be place on March 13.
