Obama’s Approach to Democratic Primary Process

An adviser to Obama told CNN that the former president is approaching the current Democratic primary process similarly to how he handled the 2020 primaries. Obama is observing closely with the intention of promoting party unity once a nominee, whether Harris or another candidate, is selected.

The adviser explained that Obama’s statement on Sunday was aimed at maintaining the focus on Biden, who had announced he would not seek reelection. Obama had been actively supportive of Biden’s reelection campaign, participating in numerous fundraisers that generated millions of dollars. Additionally, Obama engaged in moderated discussions with Biden and urged supporters to contribute to fundraising efforts.

Democratic Party’s Nominating Process for Harris

Democrats are progressing swiftly towards nominating Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate, having adopted the necessary rules on Wednesday to guide the selection process. Formal voting to officially nominate Harris is expected to commence on August 1.

The newly adopted rules outline procedures for ceremonial votes for both president and vice president at the Democratic convention in Chicago, scheduled for August 19-22. While the presidential vote will be conducted through a roll call, the vice presidential vote is anticipated to be a voice vote. Notably, Harris has not yet announced her choice for a running mate.
