Politicians and athletes in the country often find themselves embroiled in situations involving disrespect. In the recent latest case, a Pakistani boxer disappeared in Italy after the latter stole money from the teammate’s bag.
The accused named Zohaib Rasheed went to Italy to participate in an Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
A senior federation official stated that they had informed the Pakistan Embassy in Italy and lodged a police report concerning the incident.
“It is profoundly embarrassing for the federation and our country to witness the behavior exhibited by Zohaib Rasheed, who was part of a five-member squad representing us in an Olympic qualifying tournament,” remarked Colonel Nasir Ahmed, the national federation’s secretary.
Zohaib, who had previously won a bronze medal in last year’s Asian Boxing Championships and was esteemed as a rising talent in Pakistan, allegedly committed the act.
According to Nasir, Zohaib allegedly took the room keys of female boxer Laura Ikram from the front desk and stole her foreign currency from a purse before vanishing from the hotel.
“The police have been notified, and they are currently searching for him, although he has not been in contact with anyone,” Nasir added.
This incident is not an isolated one, as Pakistani athletes have previously absconded while abroad with national squads in pursuit of a better future.
