Pakistan’s former military leader Pervez Musharraf passed away

Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan’s former Chief of Army Staff and President, died on Sunday in an American hospital in the United Arab Emirates after a protracted illness, according to Daily Pakistan. Musharraf became Pakistan’s tenth president following a successful military coup in 1999.

From 1998 to 2001, he was the 10th Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), and from 1998 to 2007, he was the 7th top general. According to family members quoted in local media, the former four-star general died of Amyloidosis. According to accounts, he was hospitalised for a few weeks owing to a worsening of his illness.

Since 2016, Musharraf has been residing in Dubai. The former president has been receiving medical care in the UAE for the past eight years. Musharraf had previously stated a wish to spend the “rest of his life” in his home country, according to local media. According to the Express Tribune, the former president wants to return to Pakistan as soon as feasible.
