A fire in a residential-commercial area in Binondo, Manila, has resulted in the deaths of 11 people, according to the Manila-based Daily Tribune. The blaze started at 7:20 a.m. local time in a canteen on the fourth floor of a building on Carvajal Street.
The initial report from the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection indicates that the fire was caused by a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak and was extinguished at 10:04 a.m. local time. Kagawad Nelson Ty of Barangay 289 confirmed that 11 victims were trapped in the building.
In response to the tragedy, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna has deployed the Manila Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) to support the victims’ families with medical, psychological, and financial assistance.
