PM Modi & Russian President Putin Likely to Hold Meet
According to India’s ambassador to Moscow Pawan Kapoor, discussions are in progress at a high level about the possibility of a summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin before the conclusion of this year, as reported by the Russian news agency RIA.
During a recent event, President Putin lauded India as a “powerful country” that continues to strengthen under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He highlighted India’s remarkable population of over 1.5 billion and an impressive economic growth rate exceeding 7 percent. This statement was reported by Russia-based RT News, along with a video clip of Putin’s remarks.
It’s noteworthy that President Putin did not attend the G20 Summit held in New Delhi on September 9-10, where Russia was represented by its foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. The last encounter between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin took place on the margins of the 22nd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in September 2022.
During their meeting in Samarkand, PM Modi urged President Putin to seek a resolution to Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine, emphasizing that the current era is one that calls for peace rather than war.
