PM Modi kickstarts Sydney visit, meets Australian CEOs

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Executive Chairman of Fortescue Future Industries, an Australia-based Green energy and technology enterprise.

Twiggy is an Australian businessman called John Andrew Henry Forrest AO. He is best known as the former CEO (and current non-executive chairman) of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) and has other interests in the mining industry and in cattle stations. According to the Financial Review, Forrest was Australia’s richest person in 2008.

In Sydney, the Prime Minister also met with Paul Schroder, CEO of Australian Super.
On October 1, 2021, he was appointed Chief Executive of Australian Super, and he is responsible for the fund’s leadership and strategic development, as well as providing advice to the board.

After concluding his visit to Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sydney for the third and final leg of his three-nation tour.

When PM Modi arrived in Sydney, he was greeted by Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell and other officials.

PM Modi will meet with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, during his visit.
According to an official statement released by the Australian government, the leaders will discuss trade and investment, including efforts to boost trade between the two countries through a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement and work to strengthen people-to-people links, renewable energy, and defence and security cooperation.

Members of the Indian diaspora also greeted PM Modi with “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” slogans.

During their visit, the Prime Ministers will attend a community event in Sydney to honour Australia’s dynamic and diverse Indian diaspora, which is a key component of our multicultural community, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Albanese said he is looking forward to visiting India in September for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, the world’s premier forum for economic cooperation.

In describing India-Australia relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the two countries’ mutual trust has naturally translated into greater cooperation over time, particularly in defence and security matters.
