A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, causing significant tremors across neighboring countries, including China, Thailand, and parts of India. The earthquake, which originated 16 kilometers (10 miles) northwest of Sagaing at a depth of 10 kilometers, hit at approximately 12:50 pm local time (0620 GMT), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Authorities across Myanmar, Thailand, China, and India are assessing the situation and monitoring for potential aftershocks. As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of major destruction or fatalities, but officials urge residents to stay alert for further seismic activity.
