Report: Donald Trump Seeks To Persuade Ukraine To Yield Territory To Russia To End Conflict

Report: Donald Trump Seeks To Persuade Ukraine To Yield Territory To Russia To End Conflict

According to The Washington Post, former US President Donald Trump has proposed a plan to resolve the Ukraine war by returning territory to Russia. Some foreign policy experts argue that this move could be seen as a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin and could legitimize the use of military force to redraw international borders.

Trump’s Plan

Trump’s plan involves persuading Ukraine to cede some of its territory to Russia in order to bring an end to the conflict. Trump has claimed that if he were to return to office, he could resolve the war within weeks.

The Washington Post reports that anonymous sources who have spoken to Trump or his advisors revealed that his objective is to pressure Ukraine into giving up Crimea and the border regions of Donbas to Russia. This proposal comes after Ukrainian leaders consistently rejected any territorial concessions during the conflict.

According to the report, the former President of the United States, who is aiming to return to the White House, firmly believes that both Russia and Ukraine “want to save face, they want a way out,” as confirmed by a source who privately discussed the plans with him.

Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014. The Donbas region in eastern Ukraine has been embroiled in conflict between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces for several years. Following the recent invasion, Russia has further expanded its territory in the region. The former president appears to believe that residents in those areas would be open to becoming part of Russia, as stated in the report.

“The whole thing is fake news from the Washington Post. They’re just making it up,” Trump’s campaign advisor slammed the news as fake. “President Trump is the only one talking about stopping the killing. Joe Biden is talking about more killing.” Advisor Jason Miller told the NY Post.

In response to Trump’s reported plan, Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Ministry, stated, “In reality, that would mean the ultimate collapse of the post-WWII world order and a signal that the law of force now supersedes the force of law.”
