A Russian missile struck on Tuesday, two residential buildings in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, resulting in the deaths of 3 individuals and injuring at least 38 others. Rescue teams worked late into the night, scouring through debris in search of survivors.
Among the injured were ten children. Serhiy Lysak, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, initially reported 28 adults and 10 children injured, later confirming the conclusion of rescue operations.
“Two buildings were hit, one five storeys, one nine storeys,” Lysak wrote on Telegram. “The number of injured is constantly rising as is the number of children injured.”
According to Oleksandr Vilkul, head of Kryvyi Rih’s military administration, the city experienced at least three missile strikes. He noted that among those hospitalized, at least five adults and one child were in critical condition.
Nine individuals were successfully rescued during the search efforts conducted from apartment to apartment, and all fires at the site were extinguished. Video footage depicted a raging blaze at the top of one apartment building, while rescue teams worked diligently to evacuate the injured from damaged entrances.
The balconies were severely damaged, windows shattered, and cranes were deployed to access upper floors, accompanied by floodlights. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko emphasized the ongoing efforts of emergency services and concerned residents in rescuing trapped individuals and searching for potential survivors beneath the rubble.
Kryvyi Rih has frequently faced Russian attacks. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who hails from the city, commended the rescue teams via Telegram and pledged accountability for Russia’s actions.
