Russia’s Luna-25 Fails as Spacecraft Crashes on Moon

On Sunday, Russia’s lunar mission encountered failure as its Luna-25 spacecraft lost control and collided with the moon’s surface. According to the report, Roskosmos, Russia’s state space corporation, stated that contact with the spacecraft was lost shortly after an issue arose while it was being directed into a pre-landing orbit on Saturday. Roskosmos conveyed in a statement that the craft entered an unforeseen orbit and ultimately met its end due to a collision with the moon’s surface, as per a report by international media.

Now, attention turns to India, where the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is slated to execute a landing at the moon’s south pole on Wednesday, August 23. As per the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Chandrayaan-3 is scheduled for its lunar landing at approximately 18:04 IST on August 23, 2023. Merely three days remain until the spacecraft reaches its final destination, the moon’s southern pole.

ISRO aims to achieve a successful soft landing on the moon, a milestone that would make India the fourth country globally to accomplish this feat, following the United States, Russia, and China. In a post on the platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), ISRO expressed, “Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 Hrs. IST. Thanks for the wishes and positivity! Let’s continue experiencing the journey together.”
