US: Shooting at Walmart store in Virginia, several people dead

Multiple individuals were killed and injured in a shooting in the US state of Virginia on Tuesday, according to officials, who added that the shooter was also slain.

The incident occurred at a Walmart in Virginia’s Chesapeake, according to CNN, citing Chesapeake Police. According to the American broadcaster, police arrived to the business at 10:12 p.m. (local time) and discovered indications of a gunshot inside.

According to Kosinski, when police officers entered the business, they discovered many persons dead and injured. He went on to say that while police could not confirm a specific number of deaths, they believe it is “less than ten.”

Leo Kosinski, public information officer for the Chesapeake Police Department, told CNN that the shooter is believed to be among the dead.

During the investigation, Chesapeake city officials asked that people avoid the store.

“Chesapeake Police confirm an active shooter incident with fatalities at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle. The shooter is deceased,” the city said in a tweet.

“Follow us here for the only official updates. Our first responders are well-trained and prepared to respond; please give them space to do so,” it added.
