Smoke On Singapore Airlines Flight Leads To Temporary Runway Closure In Japan

On Monday, a Singapore Airlines flight caused a temporary closure of Narita Airport’s runway B after reports of white smoke emerged from the plane during landing. The incident, which occurred shortly after the flight touched down at the gateway to Tokyo, prompted a swift emergency response, though no injuries were reported.

Shortly after the plane landed, smoke was observed coming from the aircraft’s left engine, prompting six fire engines and two ambulances to rush to the scene. The incident led to the temporary closure of Narita’s runway B at approximately 7:40 am local time (2240 GMT).

A Narita city fire official confirmed that while smoke was reported, there was no indication of fire. Firefighters monitored the situation for over an hour before leaving, as no further issues were detected. The plane, which carried 276 passengers and crew members, reported the issue to the airport after landing.

An airport spokesman noted, “The flight communicated that there was a possibility of a problem upon landing.” The spokesman also mentioned that pieces of tire were found on the runway, though additional details about the incident were not provided.

The temporary closure of the runway caused some disruption, but operations have since resumed as usual. Authorities are investigating the cause of the smoke and assessing any potential impacts on airport operations.
