Storm hits flooded California: 19 killed, several remain without power

As the storm in California continues to wreak havoc, it has already claimed 19 lives and left up to 400,000 people without power at some time throughout the rain.

Heavy rains in California have resulted in more than a dozen deaths and significant devastation; yet, meteorologists predict that the rainy weather will continue for several days.

According to media reports, California has received a lot of rain and snow in the previous several weeks, creating power outages and prompting many to leave or hide in place.

Reports states that thousands of California residents were advised to abandon their homes after torrential rains triggered flooding in several sections of the state. Storms have ravaged the state over the previous 11 days, flooding communities from north to south and dumping snow on inland mountains.

According to simulations employing a high-resolution global climate model, a warming climate would increase the number of tropical cyclones and their severity in the North Atlantic, potentially resulting in more and stronger hurricanes.
