Students Protest Led A Prime Minister Run Away ! All Eyes On Bangladesh

India’s neighboring country, Bangladesh, is in chaos, resulting in the death of 300 people. After 15 years as Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina has fled the country amid the turmoil.

Social media is flooded with visuals showing the devastation. Protesting students stormed Sheikh Hasina’s official residence in Dhaka following her resignation and departure from the country.

The protestors looted the official residence of the Prime Minister, and vandalized the property. They looted bra, fish, saree, blouse, even dustbins from Sheikh Hasina’s residence, one rioter even wore a saree. They have looted utensils from her kitchen.

Videos from Dhaka showed large crowds celebrating the fall of Hasina’s government, chanting slogans, and making victory signs. Thousands stormed the Prime Minister’s official residence, Ganabhaban.

Footage on social media showed people inside Ganabhaban, carrying away televisions, chairs, and tables from one of the country’s most secure buildings. Protesters were seen looting the residence and eating fish and biryani from the kitchens and refrigerators. They also damaged portraits of Hasina inside the building.

Timeline Of Sheikh Hasina As PM:

2008: Awami League wins the general election, and Sheikh Hasina becomes Prime Minister.

2009: Bangladesh Rifles revolt occurs; the government restores order.

2011: The 15th Amendment to the Constitution is passed, removing the caretaker government system for conducting elections.

2013: Mass protests in Shahbagh, Dhaka, demand the death penalty for those guilty of atrocities during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

2014: General election is held, boycotted by the opposition. The Awami League wins, securing Hasina a second straight term as Prime Minister.

2015: Political unrest and violence erupt over unmet demands following the 2014 election.

2018: Awami League wins the general election amid vote-rigging allegations, with Hasina winning a third consecutive term after securing 96% of the votes.

2020: The COVID-19 pandemic hits the economy, leading to a cost-of-living crisis.

2022: Bangladesh reports GDP growth of 7.2%, becoming one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

2024: Prime Minister Hasina wins her fourth straight term in a controversial vote boycotted by the opposition.

July 2024: Students launch protests against job quotas.

August 5, 2024: Sheikh Hasina resigns from power and flees the country.
