Donald Trump has firmly reiterated his assertion that he was involved in an emergency helicopter landing with Willie Brown. Despite former San Francisco Mayor Brown’s denial, the Republican presidential nominee told the New York Times that he possesses “flight records” to substantiate his claim.
On August 9, 2024, Trump, who is running for president again, arrived in Bozeman, Montana, for a campaign rally. During the rally, he recounted a near-death experience involving a helicopter ride with Brown, though it seemed Trump might have confused Brown with Jerry Brown, the former governor of California. Jerry Brown’s spokesperson denied the account, stating, “There was no emergency landing and no discussion of Kamala Harris.”

The situation intensified when 95-year-old former Los Angeles City Council member Nate Holden informed Politico that he was the one who had been on the helicopter with Trump. “Willie is the short Black guy living in San Francisco,” Holden said, adding, “I’m a tall Black guy living in Los Angeles.”
Additionally, Harris’ 2021 biography, Kamala’s Way: An American Life, revealed that in 1994, Trump had sent his private plane to transport Kamala Harris and Willie Brown from Boston to New York City. Harris and Brown had a romantic relationship during the 1990s.
Amid the confusion surrounding his story, Trump remains adamant that he has substantial evidence to support his version of events. Despite claiming he has “flight records” to verify the helicopter ride, he has yet to present this proof. Trump also mentioned that the helicopter made an emergency landing “in a field” and threatened to sue the media outlet for its coverage of his recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago. This isn’t the first time Trump has shared the helicopter story; it was also included in his 2023 book, Letters to Trump, where he described the emergency landing as a “little scary” experience for both him and Brown.
