India raises UK’s denial of envoy’s entry into Scotland gurdwara

According to official sources, India has brought up the incident in which its High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami was refused entry to a gurdwara in Scotland with the British foreign office and police.

“Doraiswami was on Friday stopped by a few radicals from entering a gurdwara in Glasgow. The Indian High Commissioner decided to leave instead of getting into an argument,” as per the sources.

An individual who was allegedly a pro-Khalistani protester was seen barring Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow gurdwara on Albert Drive, according to a video released on the Instagram account of “Sikh Youth UK.”
This occurs in the midst of a diplomatic dispute between India and Canada following the murder of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday condemned the incident.
“I strongly condemn this (that Vikram Doraiswami was allegedly stopped from entering a gurdwara in Scotland). Anyone from any religion or community can come here (gurdwara). We are not that religion that believes in violence instead we are among those who are saviors of humanity. Sikhs are the saviors. PM Modi has praised the work of our community. Sikhs are represented everywhere in the world. The safest place for the Sikhs in the world is in India.”
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said.

Two men can be seen in the footage standing by the High Commissioner’s car in the parking space. The automobile door, which has been locked from the inside, is shown being attempted to be opened by one of them. The high commissioner’s automobile is subsequently seen departing the gurdwara grounds in the allegedly recorded footage. The next scene in the film shows another man telling the camera that this is how any Indian ambassador or Indian government figure will be treated if they visit the Gurdwara.

A formal response to the incident is awaited from the Indian High Commission in London and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
