On Friday, US and British military forces launched a series of airstrikes on over a dozen Houthi targets in Yemen, including weapons systems, bases, and other military assets belonging to the Iranian-backed rebel group, according to US officials.
The strikes, carried out by military aircraft and warships, hit Houthi strongholds across five major locations. As per Houthi-controlled media, seven strikes targeted the airport in Hodeida, a crucial port city, and the Katheib area, which houses a Houthi military base.
Additional strikes occurred in the Seiyana area of Sanaa, the Yemeni capital, and in Dhamar province. The Houthi media also noted three air raids in the Bayda province, located southeast of Sanaa.
However, Houthi-run media so far, have not provided details on potential casualties or damage.
These airstrikes come just days after the Houthis vowed to escalate military operations against Israel. This group had recently claimed responsibility for shooting down a US military drone over Yemen and launched an attack on American warships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
According to US officials, the Houthis fired over six ballistic missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles, and two drones at three US Navy ships, which were intercepted by Navy destroyers.
