US President Biden To Have Bilateral Meet with PM Modi In Delhi

U.S. President Joe Biden is set to embark on a visit to India on Thursday, coinciding with the G20 Summit scheduled to take place in New Delhi from September 9-10. During this anticipated visit, the White House has disclosed that President Biden intends to applaud Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership of the G20 while reaffirming the United States’ commitment to the G20 as the primary forum for international economic cooperation.

In an official statement, the White House stated, “While in New Delhi, the President will also commend Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026.”

President Biden’s itinerary during his sojourn in India involves active participation in the G20 Summit, where he will engage with his G20 counterparts in discussions encompassing a wide spectrum of collaborative endeavors aimed at addressing global challenges. These discussions will span various topics, including the transition to clean energy and the fight against climate change, as well as strategies for mitigating the economic and social repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Additionally, the summit will delve into ways to bolster the capacity of multilateral development banks, such as the World Bank, in their efforts to combat poverty and tackle global challenges.

Karine Jean Pierre, White House press secretary, during a media briefing on August 29, shared insights into President Biden’s intentions for the G20 Summit. She emphasized that President Biden’s visit would underscore the United States’ unwavering commitment to the G20 as the preeminent global platform for economic cooperation. Furthermore, she highlighted that discussions at the summit would encompass an array of issues, ranging from the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine on social aspects to the pressing matter of climate change and clean energy transition.

In light of his participation in the G20 Summit in New Delhi, President Biden is also scheduled to travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 10.

India assumed the presidency of the G20 on December 1 of the previous year. The forthcoming 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi, scheduled for September 9-10, will serve as the culmination of numerous G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year. It is anticipated that a G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the summit, reiterating the leaders’ commitment to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during the ministerial and working group meetings.

The G20, consisting of 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and the United States) along with the European Union, collectively represents a significant share of global GDP, trade, and population. This international forum plays a pivotal role in addressing pressing global challenges and fostering economic cooperation among its member nations.
