According to rumours, United States will stop using the humanitarian procedure known as parole to allow at-risk Afghans into the country and would instead concentrate on resettling certain Afghan evacuees who are eligible for immigration programmes that grant permanent legal status.
In a news conference on Thursday, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “We are implementing a new paradigm where Afghans would fly straight to the places where they will be transferring with the support of Refugee Resettlement groups without a safe haven stopover in the United States.”
According to media reports, she was replying to a query on whether the Biden administration was halting humanitarian parole for Afghan migrants.
Biden administration will now concentrate on work to strengthen efforts to assist Afghan friends relocate in the United States and reconcile with family members who are still in Afghanistan, the White House underscored.
According to Jean-Pierre, administration would also work to give these people a path toward obtaining permanent resident status in the country.
Under “Operation Allies Welcome,” the United States has relocated around 86,000 Afghans since it departed from that country in August 2021. About 90% of them entered through the parole system.
