The international community, including India, has recently received an invitation from the United Kingdom (UK) to attend the coronation ceremony. The Monarch (currently King) is the head of State and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is the head of government in the United Kingdom, a constitutional monarchy.

Elizabeth II was crowned queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms on June 2, 1953, in London’s Westminster Abbey. India and the UK have a long-standing relationship and share many complementary and converging values, including democracy and the rule of law. With the adoption of the Roadmap 2030 for Future Relations in 2021, the partnership was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

President Droupadi Murmu visited London in September of last year to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and to express his condolences. On the eve of the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to discuss ways to expand trade between the two nations.
