WhatsApp encountered a widespread outage on Wednesday at approximately 11:45 pm, impacting a large number of users globally. Users trying to access the app or its web counterpart were greeted with an error message stating that the service was unavailable.
Across various social media platforms, including X, users shared their experiences of the issues they encountered with the widely-used cross-platform messaging application. Downdetector, a website monitoring service, observed a significant increase in reports of WhatsApp connectivity issues during this period.
Downdetector recorded over 17,000 incidents of users reporting issues with the messaging platform. Meanwhile, in India, more than 30,000 users, in the United Kingdom over 67,000 users, and in Brazil 95,000 users reported problems with the platform.
