A 35-year-old math teacher from Texas, USA recently changed his name to “Literally Anybody Else” and announced that he will run as an independent candidate in the November 2024 US presidential election. The man, formerly known as Dustin Ebey, is a US Army veteran from Dallas. He changed his name because he felt there should be an option for people dissatisfied with both major party candidates – President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The man said his new name is not just about him, but represents the idea that America can choose a better president from its 300 million citizens. He wants to give a voice to people fed up with the constant power struggle between Democrats and Republicans that does not benefit average Americans. However, to get his new name on ballots, he needs 11,300 signatures from non-primary voters in Texas by May. He knows this will be very difficult to achieve, so he is campaigning for people to write in his name instead.
The veteran has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and is working to get the required signatures to be included on Texas’s November ballot. He said he is not delusional about his chances, but hopes to have Trump, Biden and Literally Anybody Else listed as choices. In a statement, he asserted, “There really should be some outlet for people like me who are just so fed up with this constant power grab between the two parties that has no benefit for the common person.”
People are voting for the lesser of two evils, not someone they actually believe in or support,” Else told a publication adding, “People should have the option to vote for someone who resembles and represents them, not the lesser of two evils. I reject that. It’s not necessarily about me as a person, but it’s about literally anybody else as an idea.”
His website argues that “America should not be stuck choosing between the ‘King of Debt’ (his self-declaration) and an 81-year old. Literally Anybody Else isn’t a person, it’s a rally cry.” Else also added that the “constant power grab” between the Republican and Democratic parties “has no benefit to the common person.”
“My hope is to have Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and then Literally Anybody Else right underneath,” Else said, adding that the backup plan is to encourage voters to write his name onto their November ballot.
His goal is to send Washington the message that “You will represent or be replaced.” He wants Americans to have the option of voting for someone who represents them rather than choosing the lesser of two evils. He has a website and Facebook page urging people to join the movement and vote for Literally Anybody Else in 2024. News reports indicate he stresses that people should be able to vote for someone who looks like them, not just select from two bad options.
