Woman Killed By Brothers For Wanting To Marry A Third Time In Pakistan’s Karachi: Reports

A woman in Karachi was allegedly murdered by her brothers on Friday because she wanted to marry for the third time, as per the police reports cited by Pakistan-based ARY News.

According to police reports cited by ARY News, the woman, who was allegedly murdered, had previously lost two husbands and expressed a desire to marry for the third time. This angered her brothers, all residents of Bahadurbad in Karachi, who killed her following an argument. The woman is survived by eight children, ARY News reported, citing police sources.

Police discovered a 30 bore pistol and two shells at the crime scene. A police official stated that further investigations are ongoing, as reported by ARY News.

Earlier that day in Gul Town, a woman’s legs were severed by her father and uncles for filing for divorce to escape an abusive marriage, according to Geo News. The woman, Sobia Batool Shah, informed the police that her legs were chopped off because she sought a divorce from her abusive and neglectful husband, who never took responsibility for his family.

This deeply disturbing act of violence left the victim with severe physical and mental trauma, potentially resulting in lifelong disability and the possibility that she may never walk again, according to Geo News. Reportedly, Syed Mustafa Shah, Sobia’s father, along with her uncles Syed Qurban Shah, Ehsan Shah, Shah Nawaz, and Mushtaq Shah, attacked her with axes, injuring her and fleeing the scene, leaving her screaming for help in a pool of blood.

Sobia was rushed to a Nawab Shah hospital as soon as the police arrived at the crime scene. She informed the police that her husband regularly abused her and failed to provide for her and their two children, leaving her to suffer alone in Karachi. When she decided to escape her abusive marriage and filed for divorce, it provoked her father and uncles to confront her.
