Xi calls China’s COVID-19 policy rational and well-thought-out

In his public speech marking the new year, Chinese President Xi Jinping defended his COVID-19 policy, calling it “logical and well-thought-out.”

According to reports, Xi Jinping skipped over discussing the government’s lack of preparation and the abrupt end to the zero-COVID policy, which caused a spike in COVID-19 cases in China, in his first public speech of the new year. He said that the COVID reaction was implemented using a “science-based and focused strategy.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated, “Following a science-based and targeted strategy, we have altered our Covid reaction in light of the unfolding circumstances to protect the lives and health of the people to the greatest degree feasible.”

Furthermore, Xi emphasised that authorities and members of the general people, notably doctors and other community workers, “bravely persevered to their posts through it.”

He said, “It has not been an easy trip for anyone, but we have overcome tremendous hardships and challenges with amazing efforts.”

Xi Jinping avoided discussing the suffering of the populace, their recent rise in rage, or how their reaction pushed the government to reverse its stance in his address.

Notably, China adopted a tight strategy that included lockdowns, mass testing, and travel restrictions to stop the spread of COVID-19.
