Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, known for ordering the deadly October 7 attacks on Israel, may have been killed in an Israeli operation, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). As tensions soar in the region, the IDF announced on October 17 that its intelligence agencies are working to verify reports of Sinwar’s death. Yahya Sinwar has not been publicly seen for over a year and is believed to be hiding in the extensive tunnel network known as the Gaza Metro. He rose to leadership following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in July.
