Farmers Protest Delhi Live: Police Sprinkle Flower Petals on Farmers at Shambhu Border After Tear Gas

Farmers have renewed their “Dilli Chalo” march, with tensions escalating at the Shambhu border. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a farmer leader, has accused the AAP-led Punjab government of aligning with the Centre to work against the farmers’ movement. He also raised concerns about media restrictions at the protest site, questioning the lack of coverage on their struggle.

Protest Intensifies at Shambhu Border

Security has been tightened at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border following Friday’s clash, where several farmers were injured due to tear gas shells. Despite this, 101 farmers from Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) groups are set to march towards Delhi today at noon. Protesters had paused their march on Saturday, awaiting a response from the Centre to address their demands, but no communication was received.

Key Demands of Farmers

The farmers are reiterating a set of pressing demands, including:

  1. Legal Guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP): A binding assurance to ensure fair pricing for crops.
  2. Farm Debt Waiver: Relief from mounting debts plaguing farmers.
  3. Pensions for Farmers and Farm Labourers: A financial safety net for aging farmers.
  4. Electricity Tariff Control: Prevention of tariff hikes affecting farming operations.
  5. Withdrawal of Police Cases: Closure of cases filed against farmers during protests.
  6. Justice for Lakhimpur Kheri Victims: Accountability for the 2021 violence victims.
  7. Restoration of Land Acquisition Act, 2013: Reinstating laws protecting farmers’ land rights.
  8. Compensation for Families of Deceased Farmers: Support for families of those who lost their lives during the 2020–21 protests.

The farmers remain steadfast in their demands, highlighting the unresolved issues that continue to plague the agricultural community. Their determination to push forward underscores the need for a resolution to these long-standing grievances.
